Mark takes a different view of Jesus and His messages. Although there are many mentions of the Kingdom of God, he does not tie them with Jesus’ acknowledgement that this is His Father, however, following are those passages in which He does.
8:38“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
It is, however, interesting that in chapter 10, Jesus does acknowledge that He is NOT God (His Father). 10:17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 and Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.”
Throughout Mark, Jesus repeatedly refers to Himself as the Son of Man, even though He is BOTH the Son of Man AND the Son of God.
In chapter 11, Peter shares with Jesus that a fig tree that Jesus cursed had withered, 11:22 And Jesus answered saying to them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that whet he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. 24 Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you. 25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so the your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions. 26 But, if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.”
Like in Matthew, Mark retells of Jesus in Gethsemane. 14:35 ;And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began to prey that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by. 36 “And He was saying, “Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.”
It is apparent that if Jesus had the choice to make, without His Father’s will, He would have chosen not to go to the cross. At the same time, God showed His will to His Son, revealing that if Jesus did not accept this “cup”, His ministry, indeed, His whole life would have likely been without meaning and forgotten!
There are some things that even God The Father chose to turn away, and that was the moment of Jesus’ death. 15:33 When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?”
Even Jesus could not understand the Love and Empathy of His Father, that He could not bare to watch His Son accept the final burden, the final sacrifice made for all of us!
